At the end of June I will undergo a very personal and spiritual endeavor - a 10,000 mile motorcycle rally challenge around the United States called the "Hoka Hey". This is not a race, but a journey challenging man versus himself, man versus nature, man versus machine. Technology is discouraged - no GPS, but rather sets of instructions are passed at checkpoints; in fact, one requirement is sleeping next to your iron steed. Yes, tents are allowed! We kick off June 26, and though there is no set end date, I anticipate to be done 2 weeks later - averaging 800 miles a day.
Founded by Jim Red Cloud of the Lakota Sioux Nation, challengers are also encouraged to take this opportunity to give back. Perhaps not so surprisingly given my industry, I have selected AISES (American Indian Science and Engineering Society) as my charity of choice, who have to date provided almost $12 million in academic STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) scholarships to qualified First Nation's students.
Please join me on this journey by reaching deep and contributing. 100% of donations will go directly to this federally registered (Section 501(c)(3)), tax deductible charity - none of the funds will be used to cover my costs and expenses.
